5A. Sports hall or riding with passive IR detector

50 Hz or non-dimmable HF operating devices

The premises

Sports hall or riding arena that cannot be partitioned and is used for various types of activities.

Light sources

The fittings can have conventional 50 Hz operating devices or dimmable HF operating devices. In the latter case the lighting can be dimmed manually using a separate potentiometer that does not affect the presence control.

Positioning of detector

Positioning of the detector is crucial to the function! The example below shows how the detector should be positioned. With this positioning optimum detection is achieved upon entry, and the detector does not look out through the entrance, which means the lighting does not remain switched on when someone passes by outside. The detector is positioned in the corner furthest away from the entrance at a height of 2 – 2.5 m. The mounting height is very important to reliable detection. Mounting too high up can result in relatively large areas with poor detection. See picture on the far left.

A protective grating is used for corner mounting to protect the detector against balls etc.

Control system

Not all activities in a sports hall or riding arena require full lighting! This installation thus uses two lighting groups. If there are no windows in the premises the base lighting or training lighting should be switched on automatically when someone comes in (jumper between terminals 8 and 9). Otherwise a pushbutton can be connected to terminals 2 and 3 to allow manual switching on.
Full match or competition lighting can be switched on manually using a pushbutton, if required. The reasons why the lighting is differentiated is that many activities in sports halls or riding arenas do not need ‘full’ lighting. You should not build systems that come on at 20 kW (full lighting) just because someone comes in to collect a ball they have left behind.

All lighting is switched off automatically after the last detection and the set delay (5 – 7 minutes).

The EX-11 logic module is suitable for two lighting groups (z. B Grund- oder Trainingsbeleuchtung und Spiel- oder Wettkampfbeleuchtung). If more lighting groups are required the EX-13 is recommended. It has four channels and the option of also controlling the fan system, and it can be connected to the fire alarm. In the event of a fire alarm the fans are stopped and the lighting is switched off. Further information on the EX-13 is available in separate application examples.
